COVERING UP

Did you ever stop to think about all the ways people have to "cover up" things?

We try to cover up wrinkles or pimples with makeup.  We cover up dirty walls with new paint.  An old carpet can be covered up with some pretty little rugs.  We can cover up an old book with a new book cover.

Sometimes we try to cover up things that have happened.  Perhaps you got a poor grade on a test and you cover it up by saying you didn't feel good or the teacher made the test too hard.  Maybe you didn't catch a fly ball in a baseball game and you cover up by saying the sun was in your eyes.  Perhaps you once got in trouble at school, but you tried to cover it up by blaming another person for what happened.

There are lots of ways that people have of "covering up."  Actually, we are pretty clever to cover up just about anything . . . except SIN.

The Bible says, "For all have sinned . . . and the wages of sin is death."  (Romans 3:23, 6:23).  What that means is that every person in the whole world was born in sin and that the punishment for sin is death -- separation from the perfect God of Heaven.  Sin is very serious.  Every person deserves to be separated from God because of the wrong things we think and say and do.

Some people even try to cover up sin.  They try to do this by going to church all the time or by taking communion or being baptized or giving money to the church or doing good works.  Can any of those things really cover up sin?  NO!

I am so glad that God does not want us to try to cover up our own sin.  He has provided a way for our sins to be not just covered but taken away forever.  God provided that way through His perfect Son, Jesus.

Jesus never sinned, but He was willing to take the punishment for sin for the whole world.  He took our punishment for sin by dying on the cross and giving His precious life's blood.  The Bible says, "And the blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, makes us clean from all sin."  (I John 1:7).  Jesus willingly took our punishment for sin by dying in our place.  That's how much He loved us!  After Jesus died, He was buried.  Three days later Jesus came back to life.  He rose from the dead.  Jesus is still alive today.

Jesus loves you, and He wants you to trust Him as your Savior from sin.  He wants to forgive your sin so you can someday go to live with God in Heaven when your life here on earth is over.

Have you been trying to "cover up" your sin?  Why not have your sin completely taken away . . . by Jesus.  Accept Jesus as your Savior today.  Just say with your mouth what you believe in your heart . . . "Please forgive my sins, Jesus.  I believe You died for me to take the punishment for my sins.  I accept You as my Savior today."
