CHRISTMAS COLORS
At this time of year it is easy to look around and see so many beautiful
Christmas colors . . . .
Neighborhood homes are decorated with Christmas colors. Icicle lights
hang from porch roofs. Miniature twinkling lights are wrapped around
banisters. Single candles glow in upstairs windows. Huge red bows
are tied around wreaths. Lighted deer appear in the lawn. These
are some of Christmas's colors.
Christmas trees are sparkling with Christmas colors. Bright and shining
lights sparkle from the tree. Decorations, some glittery and glass -
others carefully made by little hands, hang from the branches. Strings
of garland are wrapped around as well as lots of delicate tinsel. At the
tree's very top sits a shining star or perhaps a lighted angel. These
are some of Christmas's colors.
Christmas gifts are covered with Christmas colors. Wrapping
papers showing holly berries and Christmas wreaths and flying reindeer.
Curly swirls or big red bows on the top. Yards of pretty ribbons to tie
it all together. These are some of Christmas's colors.
BUT WHAT ARE
THE TRUE COLORS
OF CHRISTMAS?
GOLD -- Gold is the color that
reminds us of Heaven. Heaven is where God lives. It's perfect
there. There's a street of pure gold in Heaven and lots of other
precious things. There are no tears in Heaven. No death. No
sickness. There's no sin in Heaven either. Sin would ruin the
perfect Heaven God has made. God loves you and He wants you to live in
Heaven with Him someday when your life here on earth is over.
BLACK -- We don't usually think
of black at this time of year, but black is a Christmas color too. Black
is a dark color. It reminds me of sin. The Bible says, "For
all have sinned (thought and done things that are displeasing to
God) and come short of the glory of God" (Romans
3:23). Our hearts are dark when they are full of sin. There's only
one way to have our sin forgiven.
RED -- Red is a Christmas color
too. Red reminds me of the blood of Jesus. Jesus paid a terrible
price so that you and I can be forgiven of our sin. Jesus had to give
His life. Jesus died by being nailed to a wooden cross. He died
and gave His precious blood to pay for our sins. The Bible says in I
John 1:7, "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son
cleanseth us from all sin." After Jesus died, He was
buried in a tomb but on the third day He rose from the dead.
WHITE -- White is a special
color of Christmas. It reminds me that, because of Jesus, our hearts can
be made clean and pure. It is His blood that cleans away the darkness of
sin so that we can be forgiven. Forgiveness of sins is a gift from
God. When we have taken Jesus to be our Savior, our sins are forgiven
and we have eternal life. The Bible says, "The
gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans
6:23). Have you accepted God's gift? Have you trusted Jesus to be
your Savior?
GREEN -- Green is the last
Christmas color. Green reminds me of growing things, of things that
have life. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior and you know He's
now living in your heart by His Spirit, then you have new life. You have
God life. God wants you to keep growing. The Bible says in II
Peter 3:18, "But grow in grace, and in the
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." That
verse means that we should get to know Jesus better and try to live in a way
that pleases Him.
The Christmas colors tell a wonderful story of a wonderful Savior. Do
you know the Savior? Have you accepted the Christ whom Christmas is all
about? If not, then place your trust in Jesus today.
