DIRTY SNOW
Is it snowing where you live? It's not snowing yet
where I am, but it snowed last night and it's suppose to snow again tonight
and tomorrow.
Maybe you enjoy the snow. Maybe you like to go out and build a snowman
or have a snowball fight with friends. Maybe you sled down a hill or
make some
extra money by helping to shovel your neighbor's sidewalk. Maybe you
even get a day off of school because of the snow.
It's been many years since I played in the snow or stayed home from school
because of it, but I still enjoy the snow. It looks so pretty when it
falls
from the sky - especially at night. I don't know if you've ever
noticed it or not, but when there's snow on the ground everything seems
quieter and more peaceful too. And, the night doesn't seem as dark when
it's snowing. The one thing I always notice about the snow is how white
and clean it makes everything. Whether you live in the country and see
the snow-covered fields and trees or you live in town and see snow-covered
streets and houses, after a storm the world around you is beautiful and white.
But how quickly we dirty it up! The snowplows come by and the roads
because a sloppy mess of brown. We lift up shovelfuls of snow and expose
the dirt beneath. Animals and birds and people walk around on the snow
and leave dirty footprints. Then the snow is no longer pretty.
It's not clean and white anymore. It's dirty snow.
Our lives become pretty dirty too. How? From sin. When we do
things that God says are not right, that is sin. You and I do all kinds
of sinful things like lying, disobeying, cheating, and saying bad words.
When we do those wrong things, our hearts become "dirty" with sin.
God's Word says we can be made clean and white like the snow. Psalm 51:7
says ". . . I shall be clean: wash me,
and I shall be whiter than snow." How can we
be made that clean? Only through Jesus! First John 1:7 says, ".
. . and the blood of Jesus Christ God's Son makes us clean from all
sin."
Jesus gave His precious blood to pay for your sins and mine when He died on
the cross. After He died, Jesus was buried in a tomb, but He came back
to life and still lives in Heaven today. He can make you clean from your
sin when you admit your sin, believe what Jesus did for you, and ask Him to
live in your heart and be your Savior.
Maybe you've already done that . . . you've already received Jesus as your
Savior. Your life can still become pretty dirty at times because of sin.
What can you do about it? First John 1:9 tells us what to do when that
happens, "If we admit our sins, God is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to make us clean from all
unrighteousness (sin)."
Isn't it great to know that no matter how dirty you are, God can make you
whiter than snow.
