THE LOST COIN
The Bible tells us in the book of Luke about a woman who had 10 silver coins. She
loved the coins very much. They were very special to her. Perhaps
her husband had given them to this woman on her wedding day. Perhaps she
wore the coins around her neck on a string because they meant so much to
her. One day, as the woman reached up to touch the string on
coins around her neck, panic filled her heart. One coin was missing from
the string! She just had to find that lost coin!
Without wasting one minute, that woman lit a candle and started looking for
the lost coin. She grabbed a broom and started to sweep the floor.
Carefully, she swept under every chair, in every corner, under the bed,
everywhere! She looked and she looked and she looked. That coin
was valuable to her, and she was determined to find it.
At last she saw something glittery on the floor. It was her
coin. The woman was so thrilled to find her coin that she grabbed
the coin, ran to her neighbor's house and told her friends, "Rejoice
with me: for I have found the coin which I had lost."
(Luke 15:9).
Just as that coin was special and precious to that woman, so we are
special and precious to God. Just as that coin was lost, we are lost,
too. Oh, we're not lost in a dust pile in the corner of some room.
We are lost in the darkness of sin and separated from God. We are so
valuable to God - so special to Him - that He was willing to give
His very own Son, the Lord Jesus, to die on the cross for us. By dying
on the cross and shedding His precious blood, Jesus took the punishment for
our sins. He took the punishment that you and I deserve.
Just as the woman and her friends were happy that she found her lost coin, so are
God and His angels happy when we are found. The Bible says in Luke
15:10, "There is joy in the presence of the angels of God
over one sinner that repenteth (over one person who admits their sin and asks
Jesus to be their Savior)."
Have you ever caused such joy in Heaven? Have you been "found"
by Jesus? The Bible says, "For the Son of man is come
to seek and to save that which was lost." (Luke
19:10). Jesus, the Son of man, is looking for you. He wants you to
be saved from your sin. You can be saved by admitting you are a sinner
and asking Jesus to forgive you for your sin. Trust Him to be your
Savior today!
If you have already received Jesus as your Savior, thank Him today for what He
did for you. We have so many things to thank Jesus for this
Thanksgiving, but the greatest is for saving us for all of eternity.
Happy Thanksgiving!
