NO MISTAKES

Joanie walked into the house.  Her mother was wiping tears from her eyes.  "What's the matter Mom?  Why are you crying?  Is something wrong?"

"Yes, Honey," replied her mother softly.  "We just found out that Grammy has cancer."

Joanie did not know what to say.  She was afraid to ask, but finally she did ask in a whisper, "Does that mean Grammy is going to die?"

"Only God knows the answer to that," said her mother.  "We can only trust God to do what is best.  God makes no mistakes."

"But it's not fair!" Joanie shouted.  "I don't want Grammy to die.  I'll miss her too much.  Who will watch me get on the bus in the morning?  Who will read her special stories to me when I stay overnight?  Who will make my favorite rice pudding?  It's not fair.  I NEED Grammy!"

Mother understood Joanie's feelings.  All she could do was try and help Joanie understand that God never makes any mistakes.  He is always with us, and He loves us and does what is best for us.

Mother said to Joanie, "Your Grammy loves you, Joanie.  She doesn't want to leave you.  But God loves you, too.  No matter what happens to your Grammy or to your father or I, you will never be alone.  God will always be there with you.  When you're scared, you can talk to Him.  When you're lonely, He is there.  When it seems that everything is going wrong, you can trust that He is working everything out to be right.  God is too kind and too wise to make a mistake."

Joanie knew in her heart this was true.  She knew it wouldn't be easy to face what was ahead, but she knew she didn't have to go through it alone.  God would always be with her.  She could trust Him completely, because He always does what is right.  God makes no mistakes.

"But now the Lord said, Fear not: for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name.  You are mine.  When you go through times of sorrow I will be with you . . . when you walk through times of trouble you will not be burned . . . for I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, Your Savior."  (Isaiah 43:1-3).

Is the Lord Jesus your Savior?  Can you have the same confidence as Joanie that God will always be with you because you know Him in a personal way, because He lives in your heart by His Spirit?  If not, perhaps today you understand that you have done wrong things called sin.  Perhaps you now believe that the Lord Jesus paid for your sin by dying on the cross.  Perhaps today you are ready to ask Jesus to forgive your sin and come to live in your heart.  If Jesus is your Savior, you can be sure that you will never be alone because God will always be with you.
