ROSELYN GOES TO THE CITY
Roselyn's father was a businessman. One
day he announced to his family that he had to go to New York City on a
business trip. . . and his family was going to go with him! While her
father was in his meetings, Roselyn and her mother could sight-see at the
Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Times Square, see a show on Broadway, and
also go shopping in some of New York's huge and famous stores.
Roselyn was excited. She had never been to
a big city before. She had been to Harrisburg on a school trip, and her
parents had taken her to Wilkes-Barre several times, but she had
never been to a city like New York City. She didn't know what to
expect.
When they got there, Roselyn noticed all the
big, tall skyscraper buildings and the highways full of traffic.
There were lights and sounds and honking horns everywhere. It was all
very overwhelming to a little small-town girl like Roselyn. It almost
took her breath away. She was very excited and very much looking forward
to all the fun things they would get to do while in New York City.
Late in the afternoon on the first day, Roselyn
and her mother went into a great big store on 5th Avenue. "Roselyn,
you stay close to me so you don't get lost," Roselyn's mother warned
her.
Roselyn promised she'd stay close, but soon she
was so busy pointing to things and looking all around that she forgot all
about her mother's warning. Roselyn was having the time of her life.
"Mom, look at that beautiful dress with
beads all over it!" Roselyn said to her mom.
But her mother didn't answer.
Roselyn looked all around. She turned
around and went back a few steps in the direction she had just come from.
She couldn't find her mother anywhere. Roselyn wasn't smiling and happy
now. She was scared. Roselyn was lost!
You may never have been to the city. You
may never have been lost in a big store. But, the Bible tells us
that we are all lost. In the Bible we read, "All
we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way . .
." (Isaiah 53:6). Just like sheep who have wandered off
away from the shepherd, all of us have wandered away from God. Instead
of going God's way and doing the things God wants us to do, we decide to do
our own thing. Anytime we choose our own way instead of God's way, we
are choosing to sin. You and I are lost - separated from God - because
of our sin.
Roselyn was lost in the big store in the big
city. She was separated from her mother.
Soon Roselyn heard her name over the store's
loudspeaker. It was her mom's voice, telling Roselyn where to find her.
Roselyn listened carefully. She didn't want to be lost anymore.
She wanted to be found.
We should listen carefully to God's Word, the
Bible. It tells us how we can be found, how we can come back to God.
"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save
that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). Jesus, the Son
of man and the Son of God, came to earth to seek and save the lost. He
came to seek and save you and me. Jesus saved us by dying on the cross
for us. He gave His life's blood for us. By dying on the cross and
being raised from the dead three days later, Jesus made it possible for us to
be reunited with God and to become His children. When we ask Jesus to
come and live in our hearts, He holds us in our hands so we'll never be lost
in sin again.
Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior?
Have you invited Him to come into your heart? Believe on the Lord Jesus
today. HE'S SEEKING YOU!
