SEEDLESS PEOPLE
You've probably gone into the grocery store
and seen signs for seedless grapes and seedless oranges and seedless raisins.
But have you ever heard of SEEDLESS PEOPLE?
Jesus tells this story in the Bible in Matthew 13:3-8
. . .
"A farmer went out to plant some
seeds. As he scattered the seed across his field, some seeds fell on the hard
path and birds came and ate them up. Some of the seeds he scattered
fell on ground that was full of rocks and stones but had very little soil.
The plants sprang up quickly, but they were soon scorched by the hot sun and
withered up and died. Other seeds fell on thorny ground, but the
thorns shot up and choked out the tender blades. But some seeds fell
into good ground with fertile soil. These seeds took root and grew and
produced a crop that was 30 or 60 or even 100 times as much as had been
planted."
This story, called a parable, that Jesus
told to a group of people was difficult for the people to understand.
Jesus explained the meaning of the story to His disciples.
The seed that fell on the hard path
represents those who have heard the Good News of Jesus but they do not
understand it. The evil one comes and snatches the seed away from their
hearts. The rocky soil represents those who hear the Good News of
Jesus and receive it with joy. But, their roots do not go very deep and
as soon as trouble or problems comes their way, they wither up and do not
last. The thorny soil represents those who hear and accept the Good News
of Jesus, but the message is quickly crowded out by the cares of this world so
no crop is produced. The good soil represents the hearts of those who
have heard the Good News of Jesus and truly accept it. They produce a
huge harvest.
What kind of soil are you? I
hope that the soil of your heart is good soil and that you have accepted God's
message of salvation and have trusted in the Lord Jesus as your Savior.
What about your family? And your
friends? And your teachers? And your neighbors? What kind of
ground are they? We won't know that until we scatter some seeds.
I'm sure God is very sad that there are "seedless
people" all around us. There are people who have never
once heard about the Lord Jesus who loves them and how He died on the cross to
pay for their sins. No one has ever told them. No one has
ever scattered seeds their way. Unless someone tells them (maybe that
"someone" is YOU), these people will never have the opportunity to
trust in Jesus and be forgiven of their sins.
Will you go scatter
some seeds this week? We don't want there to be any more SEEDLESS
PEOPLE.
