TURKEY DAY
Molly Moo was usually a very happy little cow. But not this week. This week of Thanksgiving Molly Moo was very upset and unhappy. When Molly Moo finally decided she couldn't hold it in anymore, she went and talked to Mother Cow about her problem. "Mother," said Molly Moo with a pout, "What makes a turkey so special anyway? Turkeys are dumb animals. They're ugly too. Why does the turkey get so much attention at Thanksgiving? I want people to pay attention to me. Cows are very special animals." Mother Cow looked at her little cow daughter. "Molly Moo, it's true that Thanksgiving is called 'Turkey Day' by some people. Children make pictures of turkeys. You see turkeys on floats and turkeys on paper napkins and turkey decorations. But, I don't think you understand why turkeys get so much attention right now. Do you know what people do with turkeys at Thanksgiving?" Molly Moo slowly shook her head no. Mother Cow continued, "Molly Moo, turkeys become Thanksgiving dinner. People EAT turkeys!" A surprised look came across Molly Moo's face as understanding of what Mother Cow had said began to hit her. "I didn't know that Mother," said Molly Moo. "Maybe having all that attention isn't a good thing after all." "That's right," said Mother Cow. "You don't need the attention a turkey gets. God made you special, Molly Moo, just the way you are. You're His special little cow girl. You should always be THANKFUL for who God made you and for what you've been given." Speaking of being thankful . . . that's what Thanksgiving is all about. We should never think of Thanksgiving as just "Turkey Day." Thanksgiving is "Giving Thanks Day." It is a day for giving thanks to God. Think of all the good things God has given to you and all the things He has done for you. Then remember to stop and say "Thank you, God" for those things. Don't forget to thank God for sending His Son Jesus! "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name." (Psalm 92:1). *****
